ComSciCon-Triangle 2015 is a science communication workshop for graduate students. At this two-day conference, you will have the opportunity to develop your science communication skills, network with fellow graduate student leaders passionate about science education and outreach, learn from expert writers and professional science communicators, and produce an original writing for publication. Day 1 Preliminary Program 

8:30 AM Breakfast

9:00 AM Welcome and introduction

9:15 AM Opening keynote: Joe Palca, science correspondent for NPR

10:00 AM Session 1: Engaging audiences with a scientific story with invited speakers:

  • Mark Kruse, Duke Physics Professor, US ATLAS Outreach & Education Coordinator
  • Scott Huler, journalist and author most recently of On the Grid
  • Abby Olena, Duke Science & Society post-doc and former AAAS Mass Media Fellow
  • Karyn Traphagen, former executive director of ScienceOnline

11:30 AM Session 2: Writing mechanics and the writing/publishing process with Sara Peach, journalist and UNC School of Journalism and Mass Communication instructor

12:30 PM Lunch with invited speakers

1:30 PM Writing prompt and write-a-thon instructions
