Benjamin Shepard, MA
Assistant Director, Marketing & CommunicationsBen leads the marketing and communication efforts at Science & Society, and contributes to educational programs and research in responsible innovation and tech policy. He produces impactful story-driven content, multimedia for web and social media, and feature videos, including 22, hour-long episodes for a groundbreaking curriculum on digital literacy for Duke’s Digital Intelligence Certificate program. He is a seasoned photographer, videographer, and front-end web developer, with experience in paid search marketing and answer engine optimization.
Ben earned a BA in New Media Studies from the University at Buffalo and a Master of Arts in Bioethics and Science Policy with a concentration in Tech Ethics and Policy from Duke University. His work examines social, commercial, and policy challenges in AI safety and governance, data privacy, child safety online, and cybersecurity.
Before coming to Duke, Ben was co-founder of 360PSG, one of Western New York’s leading web development companies. As a partner and Creative Director, he led pre-sales consultations, kick-offs, and trainings, while managing projects for over 600 clients, developing their marketing strategy, brand and design, and front-end web applications.
