The challenges of communicating the realities and practicalities of science to the public and policymakers is vital, yet the media and the government may portray science in different ways. How do the media and the government communicate new science to the public? And what are the challenges of coordinating interests of the media and government in science policy?
Kathy Hudson is Deputy Director of NIH for Science, Outreach and Policy; Joe Palca is science correspondent at NPR. On opposite sides of the table on these issues at work, they are a happily married couple, who will share their thoughts on how these two essential institutions of democracy can best collaborate and communicate.
