Event Details

Please join us for a book conversation and discussion with Dr. Leo Trasande from New York University. Refreshments will be available and you’ll have the opportunity to talk with him, purchase a book, and/or have him sign one. Copies of his recent book will be available for purchase at the event through the Regulator Bookstore.

Leo Trasande, MD, MPP, is an internationally renowned leader in children’s environmental health. A practicing pediatrician in NYC through NYU Pediatrics, he also holds appointments in the Wagner School of Public Service and NYU’s College of Global Public Health, and maintains a large NIH-funded research program that focuses on identifying the role of environmental exposures in childhood obesity, cardiovascular risks, and other diseases.

In his recent book, titled: Sicker, Fatter, Poorer: The Urgent Threat of Hormone-Disrupting Chemicals to Our Health and Future . . . and What We Can Do About It, Dr. Trasande lays out the scientific evidence (both human and animal) that common, every-day environmental contaminants promote adverse health effects, including effects on IQ, autism, obesity, diabetes, infertility, and other diseases that have been rapidly increasing in recent years. Despite the ubiquitous presence of these chemicals in our lives, Dr. Trasande lays out concrete steps that can be taken to limit exposures and effect change through consumer advocacy.

Event sponsored through the Duke Superfund Research Center, the University Program in Environmental Health, Duke Science & Society, & the Kenan Institute for Ethics at Duke.
