Suicide rate doubles for black children
A new study reveals the suicide rate for black children has nearly doubled since the early 1990s, while the suicide rate for white children fell. The study, published in the national medical journal JAMA Pediatrics, looked at youth ages 5 to 11 from 1993 to 2012. Guest Damon Tweedy, assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Duke University School of Medicine, discusses the possible reasons for the rise in suicides.
