DNA Day is an annual celebration of the advancements in genetics and is a time to learn more about genetics and genomics! A panel of scientists and clinicians from Duke University and around Durham will discuss their exciting work. DNA of Durham will be an informal and interactive way to learn about recent developments in the quickly advancing field of genetics.
Speakers
Sara Katsanis is an instructor in Duke’s Initiative for Science & Society. Her research focuses on the social implications of DNA as used in law enforcement, human rights, immigration, and medicine.
Dr. Deepak Voora is an Associate Professor in of Medicine in the Dept of Cardiology and Duke CAGPM. He is a clinician researcher and investigates genetic markers associated with cardiac disease, including patient response to medications use in cardiology.
Jennifer Sullivan is a senior genetic counselor in Duke’s Division of Medical Genetics. She provides patient care and works on research studies exploring the use of genetic sequencing to diagnose rare genetic diseases.
Dr. Max Villa is a Postdoctoral Associate in the Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology. His work focuses on the development of new tools to understand how diet affects the vast microbial communities living in our gut.
